Packet loss is the #1 game killer for all parties
involved and should be of high concern. With the
addition of the Auto Kick feature in IL2 many users are
being removed from games due to this. We've all seen it
" Cheating has been Detected
" followed by "so and so
has left the game". Does this mean that
person was cheating? 9 times out of 10 no, generally
packet loss has caused this.
What is packet loss? In lay mans terms it is
lost information that is dropped due to sync errors
between you and the host when it has exceeded the amount
of time or retransmissions allowed.
What
can I do if I have packet loss?
- Power down your modem for one
minute, then back on.
- Check your signal levels, Make sure
they are within specs.
- Check your cable connections. Make
sure they are tight.
- Place your modem and cables away
from your monitor due to possible interference.
Run a packet loss test at DSL Reports (even if you are
on dial up)
Adjust RWINN and other TCPIP
parameters to bring your loss lower.
Now warping as some people see it can
be caused by many things, too low ram, packet loss, slow
CPU speeds, etc. Do not automatically assume
someone is cheating.. It may even be your computer
causing the problem. When you see a warp generally this
is from loss of data somewhere between host/client. When
data is lost, instructions from point A to point B are
somewhat messed up. Which is why you see a person zoom
from point A to point B, when their or your computer
catches up with the data stream they are in their proper
place of travel. No cheat just a simple
problem that plagues us all. If we all had the same
system, connection and ping to server all would be right
in the world but we don't and this is a problem that
effects us all.
