Listed below are general setups for IL2 that I have found work best for most users. **Results will vary due to system specs

If you use Headphones make sure to check Headphones as your speakers. The game tries to use positional audio if you assign a speaker combo...using more resources IMHO.

Soundblaster Audigy setup for 1.1

For 1.2 or later set channels to 16 on playback

Soundblaster Live! Set up

All other settings are the same as above

***Note*** Volumetric Sounds are not checked

Sound Issues and possible corrections

Some users experience a 'crackling sound' during flight. Win XP and some older Win OS's have a known issue with VIA chipsets.

Some items that can be corrected if you are using a VIA based motherboard.

Always use the latest 4n1 drivers for your MOBO. They can be downloaded @ ViaHardware  or Viaarena . 

Setting PCI latency to (0) or (64) in your BIOS.

Moving Hardware Acceleration to standard in DX Diag. or under Sound properties in your Windows control panel.

Using the IL-2_snd.dll from version 1.03 has also helped many users. You can download this file here. Extract to main IL2 folder using WinZip.

Onboard Sound - Newer MOBO's are increasing the scope of these but if at all avoidable do not use onboard sound. Generally most onboard a very underpowered for use in IL2.

Hardware Acceleration - By moving the DX acceleration of sound to standard and in the worse case to none (emulation only) and Sound quality to Good many users can eliminate almost all stutters after 1.04b2 (if in fact caused by sound devices on their system)
